 🎡 Wonderland Film 🎟️

Brief in Brief:

Design Merchandise to promote director Chai Yee Wei’s new film ‘Wonderland’ which takes place in Singapore in the 1980’s. The film won the 2024 Palm Springs International Film Festival – Local Jury Award and beautifully captured the essence of the Asian immigrant journey.

Design Strategy:

The movie is told through a series of letters from the daughter who moved to America detailing her new life to her Father who is grappling with the pressures of family life and finances in 1980’s Singapore. WHAT IF: we turned their letters into a love letter to Singapore in the 80’s?
I turned iconic motifs from the film such as retro snacks like kuehs and iced gems to locations in the film such as government HDB housing flats and the ferris wheel into a postage stamp print!

Some preliminary Sketches : My design process!

Here’s our two prints on BUCKET HAT and TOTE BAGS, titled “Singa Stamp Stories”, which intertwines the timeless elegance of stamps with whimsical objects from ‘Wonderland,’ and ‘Whispers of Wonderland’, which captures nostalgia and the comfort of simpler times.
