🕶️ RAY BAN @ SNEAKERCON 2024 👟

🏆 The Contest Brief

Ray Ban held an open call for art students  to design an eyewear case that represented the intersection of Ray Ban Sunglasses, Sneaker Culture and Singapore’s culture at Sneakercon 2024.NOTE: This was a contest: I was one of the winning entries from NAFA

🪷 My Design Idea

My custom case design was titled ‘ little India unleashed’ was inspired by the vibrant neighbourhood of Little India and how it intertwines with the ethos of of RayBan and Sneaker Culture, I tapped into my heritage to design this case.Drawing inspiration from Indian Singaporean rapper Yung Raja’s music, this design shows us how fashion, footwear and glasses are integral to shaping and reaffirming one’s individuality.

Process of planning my sketch on procreate

I wanted to include an iconic building from the district so I chose the House of Tan Teng Nia which is the last surviving Chinese villa in little India which also shows the country’s plurality and diversity. I also chose a style of painting inspired by traditiona; Indian Mughal miniature paintings.

Finished Case Design using acrylic paints and POSCA markers. The characters are wearing a hybrid of Indo-Western Streetwear, mehendi and custom sneakers. I had so much fun coming up with the dizzying colors and textures reminiscent of little India.

👟 Display at Sneakercon SEA 2024

Sneakercon SEA at Resorts World Sentosa was a blast, I had the chance to display my case at the RayBan booth and also
perform live painting demos and comissions for customers.

Here are some of the cases I painted live at the booth for customers:

Each of the designs was inspired by the HERO case design incoporating a grafitti inspire paint flicked background, a building from little India and 2 characters wearing Indo-Western Streetwear. I painted 3 more caes at Sneakercon which was a challenge as I was under a huge time crunch to wrap up painting each case within 50 mins as the customers were waiting to pick up the case on completion.
