Children’s Book Illustration 👧🏻
My first children’s book illustration project, ‘Dear Dad’ is a touching story about a father’s love for his daughter written by Wendy Lee. Wendy and I worked closely together, bringing her words to life. We aimed to show the love between Asian dads and their kids in a warm and meaningful way. The story is based on the author’s childhood so I made the illustrations as personal as possible, incorporating scenes and pictures from her childhood memories.
Wendy and I talked a lot to make sure the illustrations matched the narrative perfectly. Together, we wanted to create visuals that kids could connect with, showcasing the special bond between fathers and children in an Asian context and how Asian parents show their love through acts of service. Even though they may not say the phrase ‘I Love you’ very often, they mean it more than ever. Here are some selected pages from the book that I also typeset:
We conducted reading sessions at National Library Board at Bukit Batok Children’s reading Room.
We also held sessions at the NAFA Arts preschool and Pasir Ris children’s library in October 2023.
